What’s Next After a Decade in Business
Episode 931: Show Notes
It has been a whole decade since I started Boss Project. I have built a business, employed many people and taught tens of thousands of entrepreneurs how to build their businesses online. While I’m definitely still exploring my creativity and using that every day as a content creator, where I’m at today is not at all where I thought I would be! It’s not the life I imagined for myself, but it is so much better!
When I sat down to think about what’s next, I kept coming back to this concept of using excitement as a compass to guide us and help us follow our intuition. In this episode, I’m going to be exploring my future, and how I came to realize what I really want to do more of, which is writing. I hope that as I share my story, I hope it will inspire you to dream bigger for your own future!
The Shower Thought That Sparked My Next Chapter
It’s often my most real and raw posts where I get really vulnerable that really resonate with people. So, I came up with Creator Diary. I tried not to get my hopes up, because I was sure the idea must already exist. But, the URL was available! I had been dreaming for some time of what it might look like to have a more personal space online where there were far fewer restrictions around the type of content I shared.
My vision also goes deeper than that – it’s not just about me sharing the parts that keep me up at night. As a child, my mom would read the ‘Dear Abby’ column to me, and I always imagined that one day I would share advice with others in just the same way. I’m finally recreating that format, where people can write in and share their stories. Building a community has always been at the heart of my business, and this feels like such a natural way to bring people together.
My Huge Vision and Mission for the Future
I have a dream that knowledge should be free. There are already a lot of ways that our world is shifting into this way of thinking. As AI and Google get smarter by the day, you can access more and more information. But, a lot of this is still behind paywalls. I want to see a world where most of it is free! When I think about the future, one of my primary goals is to see this made possible.
My business still needs to generate profits, but I want to go about making that income differently. So, my goal is to lean into media, content, and sponsorships so that the cost of operations is on outside companies. Another part of that is exploring how to monetize views on YouTube. It pays out way more than all other platforms!
New Challenges I’m Taking On in This New Season
In this next chapter, I want to explore new challenges, and part of this will for sure entail writing a book. I’ve talked about this a handful of times, and I’ve always said ‘someday.’ There are a few different topics that I want to cover, and I still need to choose which direction I’m going to take. I’ve thought a lot about writing a children’s book and even considered creating my own recipe book. Maybe this journey will even turn into multiple books!
I built a business to the point that I have true financial freedom: I’m set up. I know exactly what I need to do and execute on over the next ten years so that I can fully retire at 45 if that’s what I want to do. I worked really hard for a really long time, and I want to give myself an opportunity to work a little less hard but also make the hard work the things that truly light me up.
What’s Really on the Other Side of Hard Work, Hustle and Grind
There are certain things that you just have to do in order to get a business off the ground. But once you’ve built that success, I want to reassure you that there is lightness, airiness, and fun on the other side. I want to make sure that I’m leaning into that and moving into a season with more experimentation, more creativity, more writing, and more freedom.
We were designed to be worthy and whole from birth, and yet we are often telling ourselves that we have to do more to matter. I’m tired of operating from that place. It’s exhausting, and it’s simply not true. Why are we constantly pushing ourselves to the brink where we’re going to break down? Allow your definition of success to shift. What would it look like to create an environment you could thrive in?
How You Have Made My Success Possible
You don’t have to follow the trends. You just need to build a business that’s in alignment with what you love. If I’ve learned one thing along the way, it’s to never say never. This is not to say that I won’t do certain things or lean into a trend, but I am going to be mindful that I can reassess at any time. Something I didn’t know in my 20s is that not having it figured out is beautiful!
It is so fulfilling to live life and not to dictate a direction that you have to go down. I look forward to letting my story unfold, one chapter at a time. I look forward to seeing how many more thousands of business owners we impact! I would love to work with a million small business owners. We have a long way to go to make that possible, but I totally believe that it’s something that can be done, and I hope you’re a part of that journey.
